There are several species of Foxtail, the grassy weed. Most folks have not heard of foxtail and are unaware of the danger they pose to dogs. Foxtail grows rapidly during the winter/spring rains and then dries out in the summer months. As foxtail grasses mature, a seed forms at the top of the stalk. The seed resembles a fox’s tail, hence the name given to the grass.

The anal sacs are located on each side of the anus, just under the skin. They open to the outside by tiny passageways or ducts. Glands within the anal sacs produce a dark, foul- smelling substance. The sacs normally empty as the animal has a bowel movement. Their purpose is unknown and your pet can do well without them.

To clean the ears, pour ear cleaner in each ear, and give them a good ear massage, and then let them shake, (repeat if anything yucky is in the ears). If there is any heavy secretion call your vet. Dog’s ears should be like a humans ears, clean and free of secretion and odor. Clean with a drying agent after each bath, in case there is water in the ears.
